Broncos turn up the heat in race for Barnett’s signature
A day after Parramatta coach Jason Ryles confirmed his club’s interest in signing exiting Warriors co-captain Mitch Barnett from 2026 onwards, it was reported Brisbane coach Michael Maguire flew to Sydney midweek to meet with the enforcer and the Broncos are set to table an offer.
The Broncos have cash to splash and a gaping front-row hole in their roster after Payne Haas announced his decision to join South Sydney at the end of the year. Meanwhile, St George Illawarra, Newcastle and Manly are also said to be in the hunt for the soon-to-be 32-year-old.
The NRL360 panel understandably expressed scepticism about the Warriors’ prospects of securing a player from the club Barnett joins in return for granting the compassionate release.
