The 2026 Warriors have joined their 2018 predecessors as the club’s only teams to win their first three games in a season, overcoming the withdrawal of four first-choice starters to slay Newcastle Knights 38-12 on the road.
The victory was the Warriors’ 10th from their last 14 games in Australia.
The Warriors conceded the first try inside five minutes for the second week in a row but quickly gained control, scoring five unanswered tries to effectively seal the result with 25 minutes to play.
Excellent completions (87 percent to the Knights’ 63 percent) and dominating possession (56 percent) compensated for finishing on the wrong side of the average set distance ledger for the third straight week, while an 11-4 penalty count in the Warriors’ favour – including two Knights sin-binnings – proved critical.
The Warriors also made more line-breaks (seven to four) and tackle-breaks (36 to 24).
Margin mania
The Warriors finished just two points shy of tallying 40 points in three consecutive games for the first time since the last three rounds of the 1999 season.
But Andrew Webster’s dominant outfit has achieved a 27-year first courtesy of their trio of blowout victories, chalking up three wins on the trot by margins of 24-plus points for the first time since they whipped North Queensland (40-14), Newcastle (42-0) and Western Suburbs (60-16) in late-1999.
