The Warriors defied their underdog status and the ghosts of Round 1 horrors past to blow the highly-rated Sydney Roosters away 42-18 on Friday night at Mount Smart Stadium.
For a team still missing injured linchpin Luke Metcalf and averaged a modest 21 points per game in 2025 (12th in the NRL), the seven-try performance was a massive confidence boost for a Warriors team externally regarded as conservative and lacking strike.
After star of the show Tanah Boyd dummied through for the first try in the 10th minute, the hosts put the Roosters to the sword with three further tries in a 10-minute burst and scored with the first try of the second half for a 28-6 lead.
The Warriors closed out the contest with two tries in the last six minutes following a nervy Roosters rally midway through the second stanza.
The ragged Roosters were their own worst enemies for the most part, though they also struggled with the Warriors’ rapid ruck speed. Trent Robinson’s side had just 44 percent possession, largely thanks to committing 13 errors to their opponents’ eight and getting caned 11-4 in the penalty count.
