Test front-rowers Andy Platt, Gavin Hill, Se’e Solomona and Hitro Okesene were on the Auckland Warriors’ foundation roster, but only cult hero Okesene did not fall well short of expectations. Giant youngster Joe Vagana emerged as a first-choice prop in 1996, pairing up with Mark Horo, Grant Young, Brady Malam, Quentin Pongia and Terry Hermansson before leaving the club at the end of 2000.
