WARRIORS 1995-2025 BOOK CHAPTER MENU
Following the early-1990s goalkicking revolution spearheaded by Kiwi rugby union converts, it seemed incongruous that the original Auckland Warriors would not have a sharpshooter in their ranks. But the fledgling club persevered with Gene Ngamu for the bulk of its first two seasons after ex-All Black superboot Frano Botica’s Warriors stint lasted just five games.
Matthew Ridge upheld his reputation as one of the all-time great goalkickers during his three seasons at the Warriors, but his frequent absences meant subpar back-ups Marc Ellis and John Simon were regularly required to fill the breach.
